SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This position is responsible for the design of communication, control and monitoring (ACSES, CETC). Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of real-time Linux workstation Graphic User Interface and HP Nonstop server applications. Has full technical knowledge of all phases of applications systems analysis and programming. Responsible for supporting and monitoring the work of onsite support team members and troubleshooting application problems as required. Monitors site for acceptable performance and user accessibility. Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation in support of the system software including configuration and setup guides and other operational procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Must be capable of designing automation, and control and monitoring systems • Must be familiar with Software Development, Quality Assurance, and Configuration Management • Prepares design databases • Assists field personnel with understanding and resolving problems • Prepares aspect charts to show the signal orientation • Ensures design files database is currently and properly maintained • Designs, codes, tests, debugs and documents Red Hat and Nonstop Guardian software development using C++ programming language • Designs, implementations, and maintains Linux databases. • Designs, develops and implements Non-Stop server application software • Designs, develops and implements system user interfaces • Supports development of test and installation plans for system upgrades • Monitors and supports testing and installation of system releases, system upgrades, and implementation of new technologies. • Provides daily onsite support of PSCC/CETC West operations ensuring reliable system performance and user accessibility. • Identifies and analysis PSCC/CETC West computer system operation problems; implements resolutions in a timely manner ensuring system availability and minimal disruption to train movement. • Performs trend analysis, performance analysis, recommends and ensures implementation of preventive, corrective actions
WORK EXPERIENCE: • Must have a degree in Electrical or Computer Science OR significant experience in C&S construction/maintenance of railroad signal facilities or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience • Strong knowledge of software system design concepts and processes • Working knowledge of railroad signal circuit plan symbols, nomenclature, and circuit logic • Experience with electrical circuit designs • Knowledge of radio and telecommunication Systems • Knowledge of how to translate computer programming into circuit plans or relay logic • Familiar with Computer Aided Drafting and Design Applications • Detailed knowledge of real-time programming in Linux environment using C++, Motif, X, Perl, Java, MySQL, HTML, and Windows. • User Interface background knowledge • Careful, thorough, methodical work ethic. The work requires a great amount of concentration and attention to detail, plus the ability to switch contexts quickly (i.e., multi-task). • Relational database design and implementation proficiency • Skill in oral and written communication to present incident analysis, operational procedures, and system documentation • Ability to interact and deal effectively with individuals and committees with diverse non-technical backgrounds • Skill in estimating the time it takes to implement system changes of varying size and complexity • HP Tandem NonStop command interpreter experience or knowledge • Must communicate with field personnel and design group to ensure accuracy of system designs • Assists field personnel with design and implementation issues • Must be able to work well in a team environment
PREFERRED: • Template toolkit experience. • Background in Train Control and Monitoring; Railroad Signaling; Automation, Database, and software design and development • Field knowledge of C&S construction and maintenance • Experience using Bentley MicroStation Applications • PMP or PE Certification
