This is a skilled position responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of traffic signals and related devices. This work is performed under the general supervision of a signal supervisor; however, employees of this level are expected to use independent judgment and initiative in the performance of work.

- Installs, repairs, and maintains electronic traffic control devices, including all traffic signals, school flashers, and four-way flashers.
- Performs preventive maintenance on all traffic signal controllers and devices.
- Investigates complaints and initiates the appropriate corrective measures. Handles complaints and inquiries as needed.
- Participates in the supervision and training of subordinate staff.
- Maintains records pertinent to repair and care of controls equipment.
- Ascertains by way of inspection that any and all work, either in-house or contract, is done in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and specifications.
- Keeps records and reports of all equipment, materials, and trouble calls as needed.
- Required to report to work at the appointed hour, as scheduled, and to work the entire assigned schedule.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a front-line position for providing excellent customer service to members of the general public and other County employees. Personal contact occurs with other employees of the unit, employees of other departments in the County, citizens, and customers of the department. Service is provided in person.
Occasionally functions as a lead worker for a small group of employees (one to five) in the absence of a designated lead position. May review the work product of others. Provides guidance, advice, and assistance to others on work assignments. Provides work direction.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES. CERTIFICATIONS
Education and Experience.
High School graduate or general education degree with 5 years experience in the Traffic Signal Maintenance field or experience in electrical/electronic field and some Traffic Signal control work in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Florida Driver License; CDL Class B Florida Driver License may be required.
Certification as Level II Traffic Signal Technician from the International Municipal Signal Association, or ability to become certified within one year of assignment.

Machines and Equipment
To accomplish the tasks of this position, the employee will be required to operate a bucket truck, fork lift, soldering machine, post-hole digger, measuring instruments, various hand and power tools, multimeter, hoist, telephone, copy machine, computer, and specialized traffic signal equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to fifty pounds; and will frequently be required to stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, talk and hear. Vision requirements are close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious placed, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level for this position is loud.
