Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is seeking a Staff Construction Engineer to join our team in Ashville, NC. The successful candidate should be flexible in assignments, willing to travel periodically, and eager to learn.
Managing materials testing laboratory and coordinating construction materials testing projects with assistance from engineers
Daily communication with existing and new clients, technicians and office personnel
Prepare/review materials testing reports and provide assistance to engineered construction questions from field personnel
Typical projects include commercial development sites, energy generation facilities, institutional/educational buildings, and roadways/infrastructure
Approximately 60% office work and 40% field work
Work area primarily in Western North Carolina, however, travel in the Southeast US is possible
Airline travel is possible
Skills / Qualifications
AS or BS in Civil Engineering; Construction Option preferred but not necessary
Engineering Intern certification preferred, or ability to obtain depending on education and licensing requirements
0 – 2 years’ experience; recent college graduate with no full-time experience acceptable
Good oral and written communication skills, including ability to convey information to owners and contractors in the field
Good technical comprehension of construction materials and their application, including soils, concrete, and steel
Interpretation of specifications, standard practices, and plan reading necessary
Organization and motivation
Math skills involving weights, volumes, and areas commonly used
Must be proficient in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
Ability to follow company safety standards and construction site safety standards
Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
Visits to construction sites to observe/inspect work
Lifting of materials specimens in the field and lab
