Provides technical assistance for the traffic engineering section. Collects, compiles and analyzes traffic count data and researches background information for various traffic operations studies as part of the Residential Traffic Administration Program (RTAP), including traffic calming, cut-through, through truck, 'Watch for Children' and $200 fine speeding programs. Works with other traffic engineering matters related to parking, general signage or traffic signalization. Creates and manages databases for traffic counts, and/or 'Watch for Children' sign programs utilizing traffic software, Microsoft Word, Access, and/or Excel. Prepares maps and other formatted data utilizing GIS ArcMap and graphics utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint. Conducts field work to include programming, installing, and removing traffic counters and conducting other traffic-related surveys.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus three years of non-professional planning or zoning related work, as defined by the area to which assigned.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong computer skills; experience with using Access database and GIS software; ability to research and analyze data; strong verbal and writing skills; experience in transportation traffic studies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking standing, bending, and carrying of items under 25 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
