Shafer, Kline & Warren, Inc. (SKW) is seeking a Director of Design, Infrastructure Services with a cross section of design, personnel management, and construction observation experience to join our growing team of professionals. This Senior Level, Leadership position will report directly to the Managing Director of Infrastructure Services and will likely after some acclimation period, include direct supervision of employees.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
Direct a multi-disciplined planning & design team with special focus on enhancing a culture of performance and collaboration.
The ability to be a process leader of quality, efficiency and high communication across multiple channels.
Mentorship of our staff to think creatively, seeking first to diagnose and then to find practical and efficient solutions to our clients’ challenges.
Lead by example and bring a sense of professionalism to the office in every endeavor.
Working in a team environment with the production focused engineers, planners and technicians in the Infrastructure Department.
Communicate effectively with the department management and other Engineering Technicians, Construction Observers, and Project Managers regarding scope, budget, and work quality for all projects under development in the department.
Focused marketing efforts on internal clients to promote department capabilities and cultural cohesion within the firm. Some external marketing with specific, targeted clients.
This role will be expected to be partially billable on projects in a project management and/or engineering capacity. However, more focus will be on helping to make entire teams successful with overall project development and quality management.
Inform Managing Director of work status, workload, progress of work, and engineering budget. Coordinate resources to meet deadlines and maintain consistent utilization.
Manage the preparation of construction cost estimates and plan QA/QC reviews.

A multi-disciplined understanding of engineering, construction and architectural principles associated not only with Public Infrastructure but also Private Infrastructure.
Bachelor’s degree in structural/civil engineering
Professional Engineering, P.E. licensure
10 + years’ experience with relevant bridge design, inspection and construction observation background
Knowledge and ability to perform structural engineering calculations accurately
Excellent communication skills
Strong organizational, time and resource-management skills
Commitment to maintaining the SKW’s professional image and reputation for error free work
Master’s degree in civil engineering or business management
