The Urban Planner II (Transportation and Complete Streets) will perform technical analysis in specialized areas of planning and transportation. The employee will be responsible for relatively independent performance of major planning functions or projects requiring advanced skills in research and analysis, and the use of advanced skills. Work is performed under general instructions from the Division Chief, the Deputy Director, or the Director with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment on assigned major projects. Work is subject to technical review through the evaluation of reports and through conferences.
What you should bring
As an Urban Planner II (Transportation and Complete Streets), you should have a Four-Year College Degree from an accredited college or university in regional, or Urban Planning, or a closely related field such as Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Urban Studies, Public Administration, Physical Sciences, Historic Preservation, or Environmental Studies; three years of experience or Master's degree with 1 year experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Managing, leading, or assisting the planning on transportation planning projects or studies, such as Small Area Plans, corridor plans, parking planning, and pedestrian and bicycle related projects.
- Develops communication tools for public consumption, improving communication methods through publications, graphics, web content, etc.
- Leads or assists with public engagement efforts of planning projects and programs.
- Assist with the development of the City's annually updated unconstrained Transportation Long Range Plan (LRP).
- Reviews and analyzes conceptual and formal applications and studies to ensure compliance with City's Strategic Plans, Master Plan, zoning ordinance, and design guidelines.
- Conduct research and data collection and analysis, including field investigations, surveys, impact studies, demographic information, and other relevant documents to prepare technical reports for review by Boards, Commissions, City Council and the public.
- Prepare and presents professional findings in written and oral reports and presentations to City Boards and Commissions during public hearings.
- Represents the Transportation Department to inter-departmental groups, City and Department studies/initiatives, City Boards and Commissions, community groups and civic associations as it relates to the City's transportation planning division.
- Assist with the coordination of development review for the Transportation Planning division.
- Act as the liaison / staff support for the City's Transportation Commission, including the development of meeting agendas, preparing and reviewing docket memorandums, attending Commission meetings, and providing briefings / updates to the Commission as needed.
- Responding to questions from the Mayor, City Council, Transportation Commission.
- Perform related work as required.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
Four-Year College Degree from an accredited college or university in regional, or urban Planning, or a closely related field such as Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Urban Studies, Public Administration, Physical Sciences, Historic Preservation, or Environmental Studies; three years of experience or a Master's Degree with one (1) year of experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Four-Year College Degree plus four (4) years of professional experience or Graduate degree plus two (2) years of professional experience; experience presenting technical information effectively, both orally and in writing, to large groups and senior management; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, boards, commission, businesses, civic groups, and the general public; experience working on planning and implementation topics such as bicycle and pedestrian projects, parking topics, and public engagement; enthusiasm to innovate current processes, programs, and projects.
