JOB SUMMARY This position is to assist the City Engineer in representing the City of Smyrna on all engineering related matters by The Assistant City Engineer will report directly to the City Engineer.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES • Provides engineering assistance to the City Engineer, citizens and City Staff. • Coordinates with signal technician to maintain and adjust traffic signal timing; troubleshoots traffic signal problems. • Reviews all new development plans; reviews subdivision and commercial plans for compliance with ordinances and construction standards; coordinates changes with developers and their engineer; supervises the inspection and acceptance of City improvements and private development. • Coordinates with consulting engineers in the design and construction of City street and drainage improvement projects. • Works with Community Development on all new annexations, rezoning plans, and proposed developments with the City. • Troubleshoots issues related to street signage and striping. Provides drainage recommendations to citizens; provides assistance to the public regarding floodplain, water and sewer lines, zonings, etc. • Assists City Engineer with preparation and submittal of annual MS4 report and other federal and state mandated audits. • Consults with county and state Department of Transportation officials on road projects. • Drives City truck to job sites. • Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION • Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field; supplemented by four (4) years previous experience and/or training that includes road design, site development, and traffic signal timing; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate required; Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia preferred. • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
