City of Burleson Traffic Engineer $79,220 - $118,830 D.O.Q This position manages and coordinates the staffing and operational activities for the repair, maintenance, installation of streetlights, traffic signals, traffic signs, pavement markings and school beacons. This position will ensure team goals align with department and citywide performance goals focusing on technology, asset condition and equity. This position also ensures adherence to relevant standards by reviewing construction plans including traffic signal design, sign and marking plans for compliance to TMUTCD and city standards and policies, coordinating assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public; and providing highly responsible and complex staff assistance to senior management personnel. - Provides technical leadership to engineers and technicians in the department related to transportation engineering, street lights, traffic safety, signs, and markings. Lead, manage, supervise, coordinate, direct, and monitor the section's day-to-day activities.
- Sets goals in line with the City’s vision, manage and monitor the performance of the teams and programs as it relates to their goal and the City’s vision.
- Identifies short term needs and long term goals and develops a plan of action for improving traffic signal performance, repair, maintenance, and installation; implements improvements approved by management staff.
- Coordinates, plans, and reviews the work plan for sign and signal systems operations and activities; assigns work activities and projects; monitors work flow; meets with employees to identify and resolves problems.
- Provides engineering analysis of short and long term transportation projects and provide a professional opinion
- Coordinates with internal and external agencies.
- Manage multiple aspects of the construction process, including citizen inquiries, the relocation of utilities, investigations of field problems, and price negotiations with engineers and contractors for additional services.
- Continuously monitors and evaluates the quality, responsiveness, efficiency and effectiveness of traffic service procedures and methods; works with employees on the continuous improvement of City services.
- Develops and implements operating procedures for utilizing equipment in the shop and in the field.
- Supervises staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
- Coordinates with other city departments in reviewing the transportation related elements of engineering plans for correctness and compliance to city, state, and federal policies, ordinances, procedures and TMUTCD standards.
- Respond to City Council, citizens, and city staff concerning various traffic related issues and complaints.
- Oversees and verifies installation and proper functioning of new systems.
- Assists in emergencies when necessary.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations.
