Performs highly advanced and complex traffic engineering work in the traffic operations field at the San Antonio District’s Traffic Management Center (TransGuide), including traffic signal operations and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).  Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.  Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities.  Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Responsibilities include:

• Operates traffic signal and traffic management systems.
• Provides technical expertise in planning, designing, constructing, maintaining, and operating traffic signals and traffic management systems.
• Responsible for incident management activities, including Traffic Incident Management and Safety Service Patrol programs.
• Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals and traffic management systems.
• Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.
