Open Until Filled. First Review of Applications will begin March 5, 2021. The Engineer (Civil) is responsible for assisting in the planning and design of transit projects. This position is responsible for providing engineering support for rail and bus facility projects. Typical duties include: participation in planning and preliminary engineering studies, developing and analyzing design alternatives, traffic engineering analysis, preparing and reviewing engineering designs, coordinating and reviewing engineering work performed by consultants, preparing cost estimates, and conducting research. Coordinates with member cities and MAG and attends technical committee meetings.
Provides support to assigned project managers by assisting in research and ongoing engineering issues; evaluating alternative solutions; and providing recommendations for the preferred approach.
Create in-house design plans for different traffic and civil designs.
Performs traffic engineering studies and analysis to support development of rail and bus facility projects.
Performs technical reviews and provides recommendations regarding designs and reports prepared by consulting engineers.
Manages smaller capital projects as assigned. Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of: Transit operations; Urban Planning and Civil engineering theory and principles; Basic surveying principles; Advanced mathematical techniques, such as trigonometry, calculus, and coordinate geometry; Contracting procedures; Federal and State regulations affecting public transportation. Skill in: Using computer and related software applications; AutoCAD and/or MicroStation design software; Knowledge of Synchro, VISSIM or other microscopic traffic software; Applying knowledge to theoretical and practical civil engineering problems with versatility, judgment, and perception; Adapting principles, methods, and techniques of related professional disciplines; Observing or monitoring objects or data to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards; Interpreting graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts or other visual aids; Reviewing engineering designs; Communicating in order to interact with co-workers, supervisor, and the general public at a level sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, and travel.
