Assists in the day-to-day technical oversight and administration of the Fairfax Connector fleet, support equipment management and maintenance programs. Provides technical support, analyzes contract compliance with the service provider, and identifies performance-related issues using fleet maintenance management software applications. Maintains inventories and databases associated with the various fleets and maintenance related support equipment. Administers the fleet management applications and provides technical reports using the information from them.
Assists with the planning, monitoring, and evaluating contract service provider's fleet maintenance program. Administers through various means and measures contract compliance and maintenance performance.
Develops periodic reports on fleet operation and performance. Monitors fleet metrics, including fuel and fluid consumption, excess idling, vehicle allocations, miles and engine time per vehicle, road calls/change offs, preventive maintenance schedule and sequencing, component unit changes and compliance with safety inspections, etc.
Conducts periodic inspections/verifications. Records and documents field observations, performs record reviews based on established standards, conducts maintenance management system queries, and performs data analysis. Analyzes current fleet maintenance data to identify trends. Maintains technical expertise in fleet maintenance and management programs.
Participates in fleet and support equipment procurements. Maintains files using software applications for the inventory of all fleet fixed and support equipment assets, including warranties, extended warranties and service agreements. Projects replacement timeframes and costs.
Coordinates specific one-time maintenance program activities and functions as directed, including fleet maintenance campaigns, implementation of fleet maintenance management software applications and research as may be required. Performs other duties, tasks, and assignments as required.
Note: This position has been identified as an Emergency Service Personnel which will be required to report to work during inclement weather or other emergencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field; plus two years of professional experience in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Background coordinating or managing public or private transit fleets.
Experience working in quality assurance/compliance within a fleet maintenance department.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques relating to the functional area of fleet management (e.g. personnel, budgeting and financial management, contract administration and management);
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques governing contract oversight, including monitoring and reporting of performance measures required by contractual agreements;
Ability to communicate to department management or other internal/external departments;
Ability to write detailed, accurate reports, or other documents for pertinent areas of administration;
Ability to use word processing and presentation software to prepare documents, and to use spreadsheet and database applications to store, manipulate, analyze and present data;
Ability to analyze and evaluate data associated with fleet maintenance applications and identify possible solutions for solving business problems
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to do the field observing, walking, standing, bending. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from the computer. Ability to carry items of 25lbs in weight. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
