The City of Mesa Engineering Department oversees the design and construction of all City infrastructure projects; acquires and manages City property; coordinates with developers, contractors, utility providers, and other third-party entities to ensure infrastructure is built to City standards; and resolves customer concerns to improve the quality of life for Mesa citizens. The department uses both City staff and private consultants to perform project design, contract administration, materials testing, and inspection of City projects as well as work done in the public right-of-way by private developers. It also manages a robust public outreach program to keep citizens, businesses, and the media updated on the progress of City infrastructure projects. It is the department’s goal to see that projects are delivered correctly, on time, and within budget. The Engineering Department operates with 103 employees and an annual departmental budget of about $7 million. Its team is managing approximately 230 capital improvement projects at present, including the Greenfield Wastewater Reclamation Plant expansion, Northeast Public Safety Facility, Red Mountain Park expans...ion, Phase II of Mesa Drive, and Mesa City Center’s incoming Arizona State University (ASU) campus, a joint project between the City and ASU.
