WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
MCDOT seeks aManager III for its Division of Traffic Engineering and Operations. The physical position worksite is at the Public Safety Communications Center (PSCC)/Transportation Management Center (TMC) at 1300 Quince Orchard Boulevard, Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Managing and overseeing the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of a county-wide Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS)
Managing and overseeing a central computer-controlled traffic signal system, traffic surveillance and incident management programs, and dissemination of real-time transportation system information via cable TV, traveler’s advisory radio, and the internet.
Leading, supervising and managing multiple teams of County professional and paraprofessional staff, employees with skilled labor and/or trades experience, and consultants and contractors
Developing and implementing new transportation management strategies; developing and monitoring budgets; establishing and maintaining effective contacts with officials of local, state, and federal governments
Thinking and planning futuristically, utilizing sound traffic engineering principles and anticipating and developing advances in technology that can enhance the County’s efficient management of available roadway capacity and improve safety.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in transportation, or in the traffic and/or engineering field. Supervisory experience is required.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Note: Based upon legislative requirements, some positions may be subject to different minimum qualifications.
License: Possession of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant's state of residence.
